Review:

Chef Renee! Thank you for taking us on this amazing culinary journey with you! Released during the pandemic, the author invites her readers to “feel transported” and this book truly does that.

Traveling page by page, we go from Rome to Paris to Normandy to London to Baja to Seatle. This is not just a stunning set of recipes, it’s also a gorgeous coffee table book. Auntie found it in a small cottage store in northern Ontario and could NOT put it down the moment I picked it up.

There is a healthy mix of drinks and nosh, inspiring us to snack and get a little day drunk. But classy day drunk, to be sure. Most things are super simple - dates and manchego (pg 308) - a gin fizz (pg 190 - see below). But others are more complicated yet still wildly accessible. A recipe for scallop and tomatillo aguachile made me dream of warmer days. The Super-Rustic Fish Tacos (pg 282) have a lot going on, but comes together easily.

Between the recipes are not just gorgeous photos but also beautiful conversations around wine, tinned fish, charcuterie, oh my!

This is a book to get lost in.

You can grab a copy of Getaway by Renee Erickson on Amazon, and it’s onsale for an insanely low price. Check it out!
